NIHR Council of Commissioners is Convenes its 1st Meeting Virtually

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Council of Commissioners convened its 1st regular meeting virtually under the chairpersonship of Eng. Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi. The meeting was attended by all members as well as the NIHR’s Secretary-General.

The Council opened its meeting by expressing its pride in the royal directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of the country, may God protect him, and His Majesty’s gracious patronage and constant keenness to support the NIHR and facilitate its work towards advancing independent human rights work to broader horizons, stating that the promotion and protection of human rights is an integral part of the vision of the wise leadership, and is one of the most fundamental basic pillars in building a State of institutions and law that the Kingdom of Bahrain is moving on its path with steady and confident steps thanks to His Majesty’s support and directives.

The Council discussed a number of topics, most notably the actions taken on the draft annual report of the NIHR for the year 2020, and its action plan for the next phase aimed at strengthening cooperation and coordination between the NIHR and various local and international bodies to highlight the distinguished efforts of the Kingdom of Bahrain in the area of protection and promotion of human rights, especially during the Coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19).

The Council also discussed a mechanism to enhance the media role of the NIHR, with a view to shedding light on its efforts related to the protection and promotion of human rights and working to consolidate them in society in order to achieve the desired goals and objectives of its establishment.

The Council of Commissioners concluded its meeting by approving the report on the work of the Secretariat-General for the first quarter of the current year.
