NIHR Council of Commissioners Convenes its 23rd Meeting vis Teleconference

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Council of Commissioners has convened its 23rd regular meeting via teleconference under the chairpersonship of Ms. Maria Khoury, Chairperson of the NIHR and membership of the NIHR Vice-Chairperson and Heads of NIHR standing committees. The meeting was also attended by NIHR Secretary-General.

The Council opened the meeting by reviewing the measures taken by the NIHR to follow up the precautionary and preventive measures taken by the Kingdom of Bahrain under the current conditions to combat the emerging Coronavirus (Covid-19) and limit its spread. The Council appreciated local and international praise for the NIHR’s efforts in this area, especially the campaign carried out by the NIHR to encourage all citizens and residents to take the antivirus vaccination and the initiative by the NIHR Council of Commissioners members to participate in that campaign.

The, the Council discussed the proposal to hold a number of round table events aimed at promoting and protecting human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain, which are consistent with NIHR’s strategy and action plan for the years 2019-2021. This proposal was referred to the NIHR’s Committee on Public Rights and Freedoms for review and opinion in preparation for holding it this year.

The Council reviewed the latest developments of the NIHR’s budget for the two fiscal years 2021-2022 and discussed the method for preparing and writing the NIHR’s 8th Annual Report 2020.

The Council concluded its meeting by agreeing to start cooperation and coordination with a number of local and foreign bodies to highlight Bahrain’s distinguished efforts in the protection and promotion of human rights, especially during the Coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic.
