NIHR’s Council of Commissioners Convening its 1st Meeting

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Council of Commissioners has convened its 1st meeting under the chairpersonship of Eng. Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, NIHR’s Chairperson,  in the presence of Mr. Khaled Al-Sha’er, NIHR Vice-Chairperson and Head of the NIHR Committee on Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up, Dr. Fawzeya Al-Selah, Head of NIHR Committee on Public Rights and Freedoms, Dr. Malallah Jaffar Al-Hammadi, Head of NIHR Committee on Visiting Detention Places and Facilities, and counselor-at-law Yasser Shahin, NIHR Secretary-General.

The Council reviewed NIHR’s efforts in following up and dealing with the Coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19), the most recent actions and achievements of the NIHR and how can the role of NIHR’s permanent committees be activated in following up the cases received or monitored by the NIHR.

The members of the Council reviewed the mechanism for preparing the next annual report of the NIHR.  The NIHR’s Chairman also presented a brief on the virtual meeting he attended, which was held by the General Administration of the Arab Network for National Human Rights Institutions on the human rights condition in Gaza under repeated Israeli attacks.
