Council of Commissioners Holds Its Fourth Regular Meeting

The Board of Commissioners of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) held its fourth regular meeting, chaired by Eng. Ali Ahmed Alderazi, Chairperson of NIHR, with the participation of the Board members and the attendance of the Secretary-General.
At the outset of the meeting, the Board reaffirmed the priority of monitoring the repercussions of the Iranian attacks on civilians and civilian objects. It also reviewed the latest developments regarding the human rights report that the Institution intends to issue soon, documenting violations resulting from the Iranian aggression and their impact on human rights and fundamental freedoms in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
During the meeting, the Board reviewed reports submitted by the Institution’s standing committees and commissioners. The Detention & Facilities Visitation Committee intensified its field visits to monitor the conditions of those injured and affected by the Iranian attacks. These visits included the Salmaniya Medical Complex, temporary shelter centers, and a number of affected individuals in the areas of Sitra and Al Hidd, to ensure that they were receiving the necessary healthcare services and to follow up on reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts.
The General Rights and Freedoms Committee continued its advisory role by providing observations and recommendations on several issues related to aligning national legislation with international standards, while also strengthening cooperation with national entities to promote a culture of human rights.
In the area of complaints and monitoring, the Complaint, Monitoring & Follow-up Committee received 51 cases over the past three months, all of which were followed up with the relevant authorities with the aim of identifying appropriate solutions.
With regard to the protection and promotion of children's rights, the Child Rights Commissioner followed up on a number of cases received by the Institution and continued coordination with the relevant authorities to verify the availability of the necessary legal safeguards. The Commissioner also participated in media, national, and international initiatives aimed at raising community awareness of children's rights and strengthening mechanisms for their protection under the current circumstances.
