NIHR’s Council of Commissioners Convenes its 5th Extraordinary Meeting

19 Oct 2016

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Council of Commissioners held its 5th extraordinary meeting at NIHR headquarters in the Seef District under the chairpersonship of Chairperson of the Council of Commissioners Dr. Abdul-Aziz Hassan Abul.

The meeting focused on Decree by Law No. 20 of 2016 on amendment of some of the provisions of Law No. 26 of 2014 on the establishment of the NIHR, issued recently. The Council of Commissioners extended its deepest thanks and appreciation to His Majesty the King, may God protect him, for such a significant step transforming the NIHR’s Law from being just a law to an ideal model.

The Council examined the amendments made to the NIHR’s Establishment Law in response to remarks reported by the Accreditation Sub-Committee in the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI), and internal actions to be taken to enforce the amended provisions.  The Council of Commissioners further commended the positive and constructive cooperation shown by the constitutional authorities and official bodies in Bahrain with the NIHR, significantly enhanced by the amendments concerned, giving the NIHR more powers in the field of enhancement and protection of human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
