NIHR Council of Commissioners Holds Its First Regular Meeting

The Council of Commissioners of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) held its first regular meeting under the chairmanship of Eng. Ali Ahmed Alderazi, with the participation of the Council members and the presence of the Secretary-General.

At the outset of the meeting, Alderazi welcomed the new members, wishing them success in their tasks aimed at serving the NIHR’s mission and noble objectives. He stressed that their role must support and strengthen the NIHR’s ongoing efforts to entrench human rights values in line with the Kingdom of Bahrain’s commitments in this field and in a manner that reinforces the principles of justice and equality.

The Council also discussed during the meeting the mechanism of work to be followed in the coming period, with the aim of highlighting the pivotal role of the NIHR, enhancing transparency and accountability, and providing a clearer picture of the progress achieved in the field of human rights in the Kingdom.

The Council was further briefed on the frameworks of joint cooperation with civil society institutions working in the field of human rights, through the consultative working group that was adopted following the NIHR’s organization of several forums and meetings with various civil society institutions, especially those active in the field of human rights. The objective is to promote constructive cooperation between both sides and achieve tangible progress in the promotion and protection of human rights in the Kingdom.

It was also agreed to form new working groups with non-governmental organizations concerned with target groups such as the environment, children, the elderly, and persons with disabilities, and to work on strengthening the capacities of these entities in line with international human rights standards.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Council adopted the report of the General Secretariat’s activities for the second quarter (April – May – June 2025).
