NIHR Commissioners Bureau Convenes its 8th Regular Meeting

Eng. Ali Ahmed Al-Derazi, Chairman of the National institution for Human Rights (NIHR), chaired the 8th meeting of the NIHR Commissioners Bureau at the NIHR’s Headquarters in the Seef District. The meeting was attended by members of the Council of Commissioners Mr. Khaled Al-Sha’er, NIHR Vice-Chairman and Head of the NIHR Committee on Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up, Dr. Fawzeya Saeed Al-Saleh, Head of the NIHR Committee on Public Rights and Freedoms, and Dr. Malallah Al-Hammadi, Head of the NIHR Committee on Visiting Detention Places and Facilities, in addition to Counselor-at-law Yasser Ghanim Shaheen, NIHR Secretary-General.

At the beginning of the meeting, the NIHR’s Chairman presented a summary on the NIHR proposal to organize the International Conference on Alternative Sanctions and Measures, which shall be held next September. In addition, a number of proposals were discussed, aiming to point out what the NIHR can offer to implement the alternative sanctions and measures programme, where a number of proposals and ideas supporting this pioneering step in the region were developed and submitted to the concerned authorities.

The participants also discussed the proposal to develop a media plan for the NIHR, which aims to reach the largest segment of society, especially civil society organisations operating in the field of human rights, which work to point out the role, tasks and competencies of the NIHR in protecting, promoting and spreading a culture of human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain. This plan will be discussed in detail at the next meeting of the Council of Commissioners.

At the end of the meeting, the Council adopted the methodology for preparing the NIHR 10th annual report 2022, which will include, in addition to the regular chapters, the responses of

various authorities to the recommendations contained in the NIHR 9th annual report 2021, which will be implemented by the NIHR Secretariat-General.
