Committee on Civil and Political Rights holds its 13th ordinary meeting

NIHR's Committee on Civil and Political Rights convened its thirteenth ordinary meeting under the chaired by HE Ms. Jameela Ali Salman Nasaif. Present was Committee’s member Dr. Bader Mohammed Adel.

The Committee studied a proposal prepared by the General Secretariat on the controls of granting the temporary permit for the inmates of the Correction and Rehabilitation Centers to attend the funeral ceremonies of their deceased relatives. The committee decided to entrusted the General Secretariat with performing further study and clarification, so that the proposal shall be in agreement with the international standards applicable in this regard taking into account the privacy of the domestic procedures.

In other context, the Committee discussed the draft law on ratifying the Arab Convention on Combating the Cyber Crimes accompanied with decree No. (6) of 2016 and the draft law on ratifying the Arab Convention against Transnational Organized Crime accompanied with the decree No. (78) of 2015, which have been referred by the House of Representative for procuring the opinion of the Institution on the same. The Committee has entrusted the General Secretariat with preparing such opinions in preparation for presenting the same to the Committee at its coming meeting.

It is worth mentioning that NIHR Committee for Civil and Political rights is one of the three specific standing committees that is concerned with preparing proposals and recommendations on everything related to enhancing and protecting civil, political and human rights, reviewing the legal guarantees for practicing these rights, following up on the implementation of the relevant international conventions and treaties concerned with HR issues, studying the legislations and statutes applicable within the Kingdom in relation to civil and political rights, recommending the amendments it deems suitable thereto, giving opinion whether such legislations and statutes are in conformity with the international standards on human rights or not, presenting the necessary proposals regarding the same and recommending the issuance of new legislations related to the human rights as well as participating in preparing the draft parallel reports presented by the Kingdom periodically.
