Meeting

The General Rights and Freedoms Committee held its eighth meeting under the chairmanship of Mohamed Juma Fuzaia. At the outset of the meeting, the Committee reviewed a report containing its previous recommendations and decisions, as well as the measures taken in respect thereof. It also followed up on the implementation of a number of initiatives and programmes related to its mandate, as part of its efforts to activate and strengthen institutional cooperation and partnerships and maximize their contribution to achieving the objectives of the Institution.

The Committee also reviewed a number of opinions concerning requests received from the Council of Representatives regarding draft laws and legislative proposals, with a view to ensuring their compatibility with international human rights instruments from a human rights perspective.

At the conclusion of its meeting, the Committee discussed several proposals included on its agenda and reviewed a number of relevant laws, policies, and strategies at the national, regional, and international levels, in preparation for taking the necessary actions thereon.
