General Rights and Freedoms Committee Convenes its 47th Regular Meeting

08 Apr 2025

The General Rights and Freedoms Committee held its 47th meeting, chaired by Dr. Fawziya Saeed Al-Saleh. At the outset of the meeting, the Committee reviewed the programs and activities that have been implemented, as well as those that are still pending, within the framework of the NIHR’s Strategic Plan for the years 2022–2025. The purpose of this review was to develop comprehensive proposals for activities and programs that address human rights issues and to highlight the pivotal role played by the National Institution in promoting and protecting these rights.

In this context, the Committee approved a work plan that includes organizing a series of events and introductory lectures on international best practices in the field of human rights, in accordance with national legislation and international standards. The plan also includes awareness-raising activities for students in foreign schools to introduce them to NIHR, its role, and its mandates, as part of a broader effort to educate all segments of society about their rights and the mechanisms available to protect them.

At the conclusion of the meeting, the Committee reviewed the actions taken regarding its previous decisions and recommendations. It also examined the advisory opinions received from the Shura Council, reaffirming its commitment to ensuring that national legislation is aligned with international human rights standards.
