The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Committee on Public Rights and Freedoms has convened its 18th regular meeting at the NIHR headquarters in Seef district, under the chairpersonship of D. Fawzeya Saeed Al-Saleh and membership of Dr. Bader Mohamed Adel and Mr. Daniel Cohen.

The Committee opened its meeting by discussing its previous resolutions and recommendations.  Then, it discussed the Domestic Labour Law, especially “the domestic worker’s escape or leaving the workplace”, where the Committee decided to submit a proposal to amend some articles in line with the standards.

The Committee also discussed the expansion of the application of Alternative Sanctions and Measures Law in accordance with the mechanism of introducing the private sector to implement it, especially the mechanism of its application to convicted women, whether Bahraini citizens or foreigners, where the Committee approved the preparation of a proposal to present an introductory lecture to women’s associations to acquaint them with the Alternative Sanctions and Measures Code for the convicts and mechanisms for expanding its implementation.

The Committee concluded its agenda by submitting a number of proposals to hold events and training programs related to the protection of the right to the environment and the correctional justice for children in the near future.

At the end of the meeting, the Committee praised Bahrain’s submission of its 4th National Report for Universal Periodic Review (UPR) in its 41st session of the Human Rights Council, which reflects the Kingdom’s fulfilment of its commitments at the legislative, institutional and political levels.
