NIHR Civil, Political Rights Committee Convenes its Ninth Regular meeting

The Civil, Political Rights Committee in the NIHR held its ninth regular meeting under the chairpersonship of Jameela Salman and membership of Dr. Bader Mohammed.

The Committee discussed the visions of Secretariat-General on the proposed law on amending article No. (60) of the Child Law promulgated by Decree-by-Law No. (37) of 2012 and the proposed law on amending some provisions of Law No. (23) of 2014 on issuing the Traffic Law referred to the NIHR by the Council of Representatives.

It is worth mentioning that the Civil, Political Rights Committee is one of the three Permanent specific committees in the NIHR and its activity is involves preparing proposals and recommendations to enhance and protect civil and political human rights, including reviewing the legal guarantees for practicing such rights, following up the implementation of the international conventions and treaties related thereto, examining the compatibility of legislative and regulatory provisions stipulated in regional and international conventions related to human rights issues, studying the legislations and statutes applicable within the Kingdom related to civil and political rights, and recommending the amendments deemed appropriate. The Committee also expresses opinions whether such amendments comply with international standards for human rights or not and present the necessary proposals regarding the same. The Committee is also entrusted with recommending the issuing of new legislations related to human rights and participating in preparing draft parallel reports the kingdom undertakes to submit periodically.
