NIHR’s Committee on Civil and Political Rights convenes its 18th Regular Meeting

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Committee on Civil and Political Rights convened its 18th regular meeting under the chairpersonship of Dr. Bader Mohamed Adel and membership of Ms. Deena Abdulrahman Alladhi and Mr. Ahmed Mahdi Alhaddad.

The Head of Committee opened the meeting by congratulating the Bahraini leadership, Government and the people of Bahrain, led by His Majesty King Hamad Bin Isa Al Khalifa, the King of the country, on the International Day of Human Rights, which coincides with the world celebrations on December 10th each year, on which the first and fundamental pillar of the human rights system is established.

He referred in that regard to the recent constitutional amendments which had a positive reflection on the development of the principles and ideas of His Majesty the King's Reform Project, which is mainly in the interest of the citizens, due to its importance in advancing the development of the Kingdom at various levels, in addition to the enactment of new legislation, which are aimed to preserve and maintain human rights and dignity, through the national mechanisms established for the formation and protection of the principles of human rights, foremost of which is the Law No. (26) of 2014, on the establishment of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), as amended by Decree Law No. (20) of 2016.

The Committee also thanked HE NIHR’s chairman, Secretariat General and all the staff for the efforts made in observing the recent parliamentary and municipal elections, both in the first and second rounds.  The Committee concluded its meeting by reviewing all its previous resolutions and recommendations and the actions taken thereon by the concerned bodies.
