NIHR’s Committee on Public Rights and Freedoms Convenes its 3rd Meeting Virtually

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Committee on Public Rights and Freedoms has convened its 3rd meeting under virtually the chairpersonship of Dr. Fawzeya Al-Saleh and membership of Dr. Bader Mohamed Adel and Mr. Ahmed Al-Saloom,

The Committee opened its meeting by ascertaining the quorum and ratifying the minutes of the previous meeting.  Then, it followed up on its previous resolutions and recommendations and the actions taken thereupon.  The Head of Committee stated that the events and activities approved by the Committee will be included in the strategy that the NIHR will develop for the coming years, which will target students of public and private schools, and will include a number of training programs aimed at spreading the principles and objectives of human rights and educating them about their rights, in addition to holding workshops on human rights and entrepreneurship in the Kingdom of Bahrain to educate beneficiaries of the public about their rights, especially when they visit shops and malls.

The Committee also discussed a proposal to hold a number of lectures for those in charge of executing penalties in correction, rehabilitation and detention centres to inform them about their rights and duties.

The Committee concluded its meeting by emphasizing the need to ensure that the precautionary measures are followed in the Ashura season for inmates and detainees, and that all male and female inmates exercise their religious rights and rituals, especially in the first days of the Hijri month of Muharram.
