NIHR’s Committee on General Rights and Freedoms convenes its 10th Regular Meeting

12 Jan 2020

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Committee on General Rights and Freedoms convened its 10th regular meeting at the NIHR’s headquarters in the Seef District under the chairpersonship of Dr. Bader Mohamed Adel and membership of
Mr. Ahmed Mahdi Alhaddad, Mrs. Wedad Radhi Almoosawi and Dr. Malallah Jaffar Alhammadi.

The Committee examined the proposal for the round-table event on the reality and challenges of the elderly in the Kingdom of Bahrain that the NIHR intends to hold with a view to highlighting such group as one of the most-favored for care, extending bridges of cooperation with all parties concerned with serving such group and finding out solutions that aim to overcome difficulties and obstacles facing them that prevent them from enjoying their basic rights guaranteed by the constitution and the relevant national, regional and international laws.  The committee presented its proposals and perceptions regarding that event in light of the proposal submitted by the NIHR’s Secretariat-General.

The Committee has further reviewed the responses of some government bodies that were addressed to obtain some information and statistics on combating child labor, with a view to promoting and protecting those rights.  The Committee decided to conduct further study on the responses received in order to be able to complete its report to the fullest.

The Committee also postponed the discussion of its perceptions and proposals on the events that the NIHR intends to hold during 2020, which aim to promote, protect and raise awareness of civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights in line with the international obligations of the Kingdom of Bahrain, until the next Committee meeting.  The Committee concluded its actions by discussing the actions taken on its previous resolutions and recommendations.
