12 Oct 2020

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Committee on Public Rights and Freedoms convened its 19th teleconference meeting under the chairpersonship of Dr. Badr Mohamed Adel and membership of Mr. Ahmed Mahdi Al-Haddad and Mrs. Widad Radii Al-Mousawi.  The Committee opened its meeting by praising the effectiveness of the round table event organized by the NIHR last September on the Bahraini experience and its role in promoting and protecting the rights of expatriate workers during the spread of the Coronavirus (Covid-19).

During the meeting, the Committee continued discussing its proposals for a number of round table events that the NIHR intends to hold this year, which aim to promote and protect civil, political, economic, social and cultural human rights, in such a way that is consistent with the NIHR strategy and action plan for the years 2019 – 2021.

At the end of the meeting, the Committee reviewed all its previous resolutions and recommendations and the actions taken thereupon and discussed the NIHR final proposal on the modification of the provisions of Chapter 4 of the Private Sector Labor Law with regard to increasing the permitted child employment age to 18 years to comply with the age stipulated by the Bahraini Child Law, the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child and Article (1) of the International Convention No. (138) of 1973, which was acceded by the Kingdom of Bahrain pursuant to the Law No. (1) of 2012.
