NIHR’s Committee on Public Rights and Freedoms is Convenes its 24th Meeting via Teleconference

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Committee on Public Rights and Freedoms has convened its 24th meeting via teleconference under the chairpersonship of Dr. Badr Mohamed Adel and membership of Mr. Ahmed Mahdi Al-Haddad and Mrs. Wedad Radhi Al-Moosawi.

The Committee opened its meeting by congratulating Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of the monarch, the President of the Supreme Council for Women, on the occasion of International Women's Day.  The Committee also congratulated Bahraini women for the outstanding and tangible progress and great contributions they achieved, and for the unlimited support from the political leadership in the country in order to play their role, in partnership with the various spectrums of society, in building and reviving the Kingdom of Bahrain, in light of the comprehensive development march of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the beloved monarch of the country, may God protect him.

The Committee praised the efforts made by the Supreme Council for Women in supporting the efforts of the esteemed government, and the Bahrain team, led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister, may God protect him, in facing the repercussions of the Coronavirus pandemic (Covid-19), by presenting a lot of initiatives, projects and programs, and launching the campaign "Together for the Safety of Bahrain", through which in-kind contributions of consumer and health supplies necessary for families supported by Bahraini women are provided and delivered, with the aim of supporting medical personnel working in the front lines in light of the exceptional circumstances, and within the framework of the national campaign to combat Coronavirus (Covid-19) in the country, which had a great impact in supporting the efforts of the State and front-line workers.

 

 

Then, the Committee discussed a draft proposal for a round table event on “The Rights of Bahraini Fishermen and their Accompanying Expatriate Workers and Amateurs” prepared by the NIHR Secretariat-General in light of the Committee's completion of its discussions on the development of proposals for a number of round table events that the NIHR intends to hold this year, which aims to the promotion and protection of human rights of all kinds, including civil, political, economic, social and cultural human rights, and to consecrate their values ​​in society in a manner consistent with what was stated in the NIHR strategy and action plan for the years 2019-2021.  In the same context, the Committee also praised the outputs of the round table event that the NIHR held remotely this month on “Distance Education in light of the Coronavirus Pandemic, between Reality and Expectations.  The committee stated that it will continue to develop more proposals for activities that mimic the current conditions of some issues related to the human rights issue in the country, aimed at promoting and protecting human rights.

The Committee reviewed all its previous resolutions and recommendations and the actions taken thereupon, and examined the opinions it had concluded on a number of draft laws referred to it by legislative authority and the actions taken thereupon.
