Meeting

The General Rights and Freedoms Committee held its first procedural meeting, chaired by Mohamed Juma Fuzaia, where the session began with a review of the agenda items. During the meeting, the Head of the Committee presented an overview of the committee’s mandate and working mechanisms, in light of the provisions of Law No. (26) of 2014 establishing the National Institution for Human Rights, as well as the internal regulations governing the organization and work of the NIHR’s Council of Commissioners.

Afterward, the Committee discussed a number of requests referred from the Council of Representatives and the Shura Council concerning the National Institution’s opinion on certain legislative proposals to amend provisions of some laws. Views were exchanged on the matter, clarifying its legal and human rights implications, with a view to preparing the necessary recommendations accordingly.
