NIHR’s Committee on Public Rights and Freedoms convenes its 6th Regular Meeting

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Committee on Public Rights and Freedoms convened its 6th regular meeting under the chairpersonship of Dr. Badr Mohamed Adel and membership of Mr. Ahmed Mahdi Al-Haddad, Mrs. Widad Radhi Al-Moosawi and Dr. Malallah Jaffar Al-Hammadi at the NIHR’s headquarters in Seef district.

The Committee started its meeting with a review of its previous resolutions and recommendations and the actions taken thereupon.  Then, it discussed the request of the Special Envoy of the UN Secretary-General on Disability addressed to national human rights institutions to participate in the campaign “For the Good Treatment of Girls, Boys and Adolescents with Disabilities in the World”, aimed at eliminating all forms of abuse suffered by this category and promote the global campaign “The 10 Principles of My Protection, Well-Being and Development as a Girl, Boy or Adolescent with Disabilities”.

The Committee discussed the importance of communicating with the bodies concerned in order to determine the validity of some of the allegations received by the NIHR on the mechanism used by the Ministry of Education to deal with students with learning difficulties in public schools at various levels especially the secondary stage.

The Committee concluded its meeting by discussing the outcomes of the meeting held between a delegation of the NIHR headed by the Chairperson of the NIHR and the Executive Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Environment, which aimed to extend bridges of cooperation between the two parties in the issues relating to human rights and the environment
