NIHR’s Committee on Public Rights and Freedoms Convenes its 6th Meeting Virtually

09 Nov 2021

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Committee on Public Rights and Freedoms has convened its 6th meeting virtually under the chairpersonship of Dr. Fawzeya Saeed Al-Saleh and membership of Mr. Ahmed Subah Al-Saloom and Dr. Bader Mohamed Adel.

The Committee discussed its previous resolutions and recommendations and the actions taken thereupon as well as NIHR Secretariat-General’s opinions on a number of legislation submitted by the legislative authority.

During the meeting, the Committee reviewed a number of topics related to the right to healthcare, such as those related to sickle cell anemia patients, and the possibility of providing a special centre for women similar to the one currently existing for men in Salmaniya Medical Complex.  The Committee also reviewed a number of complaints on the lack of access to treatment or medications in a timely manner, where the NIHR shall contact the concerned authorities to verify the validity of those allegations.

The Committee also addressed the NIHR’s initiative that was launched several years ago under the hashtag #Let’s_Help_Them_Acess, which called on the public and people with disabilities to monitor and report on public and private utilities intended for public use, whose design or surrounding physical environment prevents this group from enjoying their right to access and use of those utilities on an equal basis with others, in order to follow-up on this matter with the concerned authorities.

At the end of the meeting, the Head of the Committee stated that the NIHR shall hold a number of lectures for law enforcement officials, and the Committee members shall present a number of those lectures each in their own specialty and field.
