12 Oct 2015

The Civil and Political Rights Committee at the National Institute for Human Rights (NIHR) held its fifth regular meeting under the chairpersonship of Mrs. Jameela Ali Salman and the participation of Dr. Bader Mohamed Adel.

During the meeting, discussions were resumed in relation to the Committee’s visions to amend some of the  Bahraini Citizenship provisions1963 that were referred to the NIHR by the External Affairs, Defense, and National Security Committee at the House of Representatives.

The Committee arrived at a number of recommendations so that the matter will be presented before the National Institution's Chairperson in preparation for its referral  to the House of Representatives.

The Committee discussed the questionnaire referred to it by a group of researchers at the University of Nottingham about 'imprisonment for life" in order to help collect all necessary data no that sentence and its relation to national legislations in the Kingdom of Bahrain, as well as the questionnaire referred to the Committee from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs concerning the Human Rights Council Resolution No. (11/29) on the negative side effects of corruption on human rights enjoyment, seeking the National Institute’s opinion on the best anti-corruption measures and practices that achieve and protect human rights.

The Committee also reviewed a proposal to amend some provisions of the Judiciary Authority Law promulgated by Decree-Law No. (42) of the year 2002 to include a specific date for challenging decisions made by administrative entities to insure that the relevant individuals’ rights and freedoms are not impaired. The Committee will resume discussions regarding that matter during its next regular meeting.
