Civil and Political Rights Committee at the National Institute for Human Rights holds its Sixth Regular Meeting

The Civil and Political Rights Committee at the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) held its sixth regular meeting under the chairpersonship of Ms. Jameela Ali Salman and the participation of Mr. Khalid Abdulaziz Al-Shaer and Mr. Bader Mohamed Adel.

During the meeting, the Committee was briefed on a number of proposals already submitted with regards to the amendment of certain provisions of Law No. (37) of the year 2012 about the issuance of the Child’s Law on the criminalization of the use of children in electoral processes, and the amendment of some provisions of Decree-Law No. (46) of the year 2002, promulgating the law on Criminal Procedure, concerning the resumption of  pre-trial detention, its appeal, and investigation time limit, and the amendment of a provision of Decree-Law No. (3) of the year 1982 concerning the public security forces order, as these recommendations were referred to the bodies concerned for necessary action, according to the powers granted to the NIHR in that regard.

The Committee also discussed incoming requests from the House of Representatives to obtain its visions with regards to the proposed law to add an article no. (350 bis) of the Penal Code promulgated by Decree-Law No. (15) of the year 1976, and the proposed law to abolish article (353) of the Penal Code promulgated by Decree-Law No. (15) of the year 1976. Advisory opinions prepared by the Secretariat-General were reviewed, and the Committee reached a number recommendations.
