Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up Committee holds its sixth ordinary meeting

The NIHR’s Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up Committee held its sixth ordinary meeting under the chairpersonship of Ms. Maria Khouri. The meeting was attended by Committee member Dr. Hameed Ahmed Hussein.

During the meeting, the Committee reviewed the complaints and requests for assistance received by the NIHR during the last period and took some decisions regarding the same; especially requests for assistance by families of some inmates to consider including them in the exemption from the serving the remaining period of their freedom-depriving sentences and those who satisfy the conditions of exemption in preparation for presenting such requests to the competent authorities within the context of the assistance rendered by the NIHR. 

The Committee examined the complaints submitted during the last period and took some decisions regarding the presentation of such complaints to the competent authorities.

During the meeting, the Committee reviewed the reports prepared on the NIHR's follow- up and attendance at some cases heard before the courts, which are included in the competences in order to ensure the court proceedings are in conformity with the international standards related to the right to fair trial.

Moreover, the Committee decided to attend the second court session of the trial of the Secretary-General of Alwefaq National Islamic Society before the First Supreme Criminal Court of Appeal to be held on 14th October 2015 and the Committee decided to hold it next meeting on 9th November 2015.
