14 May 2018

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Committee on Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up has convened its 12th regular meeting, under the Head of Ms. Maria Khouri and member of Mrs. Rawda Salman Al-Aradi.

During the meeting, the Committee reviewed the overall complaints received by the NIHR as well as requests for legal assistance and advice submitted by it, amounting to 13 complaints and 25 requests for legal assistance and advice, ranging from lack of medical treatment and healthcare, assistance to find out the reason for travel banning and requests for assistance relating to fair trial guarantees, where the standard actions were taken and the concerned parties were contacted for follow-up.

On the other hand, the Committee commended the cooperation of some concerned parties in responding to the inquiries and requests of the NIHR promptly in order to promote and protect human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain, mainly the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Education.

It is worth mentioning that the NIHR receives complaints and requests for legal assistance either personally or via the toll-free hotline 80001144, the NIHR’s website www.nihr.org.bh, or the NIHR Bahrain smartphone application.
