NIHR’s Committee on Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up convenes its 7th Regular Meeting

14 Nov 2017

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Committee on Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up has convened its 7th regular meeting, under the chairpersonship of Mrs. Dina Abdul-Rahman Al-Lazi, where the Committee discussed the overall complaints as well as requests for assistance and legal advice recently received by it, where the standard actions were taken thereon and the concerned authorities were contacted for follow-up.  It has also reviewed the monitoring cases for human rights situations and the proper actions taken thereupon.

During the meeting, the Committee also addressed the provisions of the Law No. 59 of 2014 by adding a second paragraph to Article 5 of the Law No. 74 of 2006 regarding the care, rehabilitation and employment of persons with disabilities, which states:  “The employee or worker with disability, or who gives care to a person with disability from his first-degree relatives who needs special care as per certificate issued by the competent medical committee, shall be granted two paid rest hours per day, as per the conditions and controls issued by a resolution of the minister”, as well as the reasons behind the delay by the concerned parties to activate this article since the promulgation of the Law till this date.

It is worth mentioning that the NIHR receives complaints and requests for assistance through the toll-free hotline 80001144, the NIHR’s website www.nihr.org.bh, or via the NIHR Bahrain smartphone application anywhere.  Complaints may also be received personally at the headquarters of the NIHR in Seef district.
