Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-Up Committee holds its 23rd meeting

The NIHR Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-Up Committee held its 23rd meeting on Monday, 15th December 2014 under the chairpersonship of HE. Mr. Abdullah Ahmed Al Derazi. The meeting was attended by Committee members HE. Ms. Maria Entwan Khuri and HE. Dr. Bader Mohammed Adel.
During the meeting, all complaints and assistance requests received by the NIHR during the last period and the measures taken. Eight complaints covering various issues including claims of physical abuse and mistreatment by employees of the Ministry of Interior claims of failure to receive the treatment and the medical care needed in places of detention and enforcement of punishment, as well as claims concerning arrest conditions and the lack of the news about the arrested persons. Those complaints were examined and the authorities concerned were contacted in order to follow up on the developments of such cases. On the other hand, the NIHR received five assistance and legal advice requests including and a request for intervention to permit an sentenced inmate to attend the funeral ceremony of one of his relatives. The Committee decided to hold its next meeting on 19th January 2015.
