NIHR’s Committee on Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up Convenes its 21st Regular Meeting

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Committee on Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up convened its 21st regular meeting under the chairpersonship of Ms. Maria Khouri. Present were Committee members Dr. Hameed Hussein and Dr. Mona Hijris. The Committee reviewed the overall complaints and applications for assistance received by the NIHR since the previous meeting of the Committee in 21 December 2016 until 14 January 2017, including 11 complaints, for which all the standard actions were taken, and they were communicated to the concerned bodies for follow-up.  The Committee further received 13 applications for assistance and legal advice.
The Committee further monitored a number of allegations related to disabled persons’ deprivation from the 2-hour care and the decent standard of living, which have been communicated via some local gazettes and social media, and for which verification actions are being acted upon.
The Committee further indicated that, in 2016, it received 150 complaints, 58 of them were closed as result was achieved therein, 15 were closed for demise of the case of violation therein, 5 were closed for lack of jurisdiction, 2 were closed for lack of seriousness by the applicants, 18 were closed for lack of any violated rights and the remaining complaints are still under follow-up, which are either pending response of the concerned bodies and cooperation with them for demise of the case of violation or referred for more research and study.

The Committee further noted that the complaints and applications for assistance should be submitted to it without hesitation.  It referred to positive cooperation of all concerned bodies and thanked them all for their cooperation in terms of activating partnership and national interest and establishing human rights foundations and principles in the Kingdom of Bahrain.
