Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up Committee holds its twenty four meeting

The NIHR’s Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up Committee held its 24th meeting on Wednesday, 21st January 2015 under the chairpersonship of Mr. Abdullah Mohammed Al Derazi. The meeting was attended by Committee members Ms. Maria Khouri and Dr. Bader Mohammed Adel.

During the meeting, the Committee reviewed all complaints and requests for assistances and legal advice received by the NIHR during the last period and the actions taken concerning the same. Seven complaints were received and the subjects of these complaints covered claims of arrest by Ministry of Interior’s personnel and lack of information about the arrested persons and failure to enable them to communicate with the family or seek assistance of a lawyer. These complaints were studied and the competent authorities were contacted regarding the same in order to verify and follow-up thereof. On the other hand, the NIHR received four requests for assistance and legal advice including a request of intervention with the Ministry of Interior to allow a detained person to enter his medical medicament and enabling him to perform his academic examinations. The Committee took some decisions and the most one thereof was the decision of the Committee to attend the first trial session of the Secretary-General of Alwefaq National Islamic Society scheduled to be held on 28th January 2015 in order to ensure court proceedings are in conformity with the international standards related to the right to to fair trial. The Committee decided to hold its next meeting on 16th February 2015.
