NIHR’s Committee on Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up Convenes its 23rd Regular Meeting

27 Mar 2017

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Committee on Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up convened its 23rd regular meeting under the chairpersonship of Ms. Maria Khouri. The meeting  was attended by Committee Members Dr. Hameed Hussein and Dr. Mona Hajras. The Committee reviewed the overall complaints and applications for assistance received by the NIHR since the previous meeting of the Committee on 27 February 2017 until 26 March 2017, which amounted to 15 complaints.  The Committee further received 19 applications for assistance and legal advice on various subjects, mainly those related to education, housing and health.

The Committee indicated that, since January 2017 to date, it has received 27 complaints, 6 of them were closed as result was achieved therein, 4 were closed for lack of infringed right, and the remaining complaints are still under follow-up, which are either pending response of the concerned bodies and cooperation with them for demise of the case of violation or referred for more research and study.

The Committee further followed-up its previously proposed training plans and programs related to the enhancement of public culture on the mechanism for submitting complaints in case of any infringed right and how to apply for assistance and legal advice, paying special attention to the segment whose circumstances prevent their direct communication with the NIHR, by finding out the best ways to enable them to use their right to submit complaints.

In all cases, the Committee indicated that it is possible to submit the complaints and applications for assistance and legal advice either by attending personally to the NIHR’s headquarters in Seef District, or by visiting the NIHR’s website on www.nihr.org.bh, calling phone number 17111666 or using the NIHR Bahrain smartphone application anywhere
