27 Sep 2018

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Committee on Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up convened its 16th regular meeting headed by Ms. Maria Khoury. The meeting was attended by Mrs. Rawdha Alaradi. During the meeting, all the complaints received by the NIHR were reviewed, in addition to requests for legal assistance and advice. The committee received (4) complaints, covering the right to health, the right to physical and moral integrity and the right to liberty and personal safety. Standard actions were taken and the parties concerned were contacted for follow-up.  The Committee also provided (36) pieces of legal assistance and advice.  In addition, the NIHR observed one case via the media and social media and received (89) cases via the toll-free hotline for receiving complaints during August and September.

The Committee also discussed a number of cases related to the payment of financial dues to some laid-off employees from a private company, which was contacted for completion of the standard procedures in order for the NIHR to take the necessary actions under its terms of reference.

In order to ensure that the Committee’s resolutions and recommendations are implemented to the fullest, it reviewed a list of its previous resolutions and recommendations and the actions taken in this regard to improve its work.

It is worth mentioning that the NIHR receives complaints and applications for legal assistance either personally or via the toll-free hotline (80001144), the NIHR’s website (www.nihr.org.bh), or the (NIHR Bahrain) smartphone application.
