NIHR’s Committee on Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up convenes its 5th Regular Meeting

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Committee on Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up convened its 5th regular meeting under the chairpersonship of Mrs. Dina Al-Lazi and membership of Mr. Khaled Al-Shaer and Mrs. Rawda Al-Aradi.

The Committee discussed the overall complaints as well as requests for assistance and legal advice recently received by the NIHR’s Committee since its last meeting, giving priority to the most prominent complaints, i.e. those filed by the parents of students with denied promotion to the first primary grade.  The Committee shall communicate with the competent authority as soon as possible to find a solution to this problem and establish the appropriate legal and human rights resolutions.

During the meeting, the Committee also discussed the proceedings of a number of cases brought to the NIHR to monitor the human rights guaranteed therein.  It also reviewed and discussed the reports of declared and undeclared visits program to the reform and rehabilitation centers that has started since the previous month and shall continue until the end of this year.

On the other hand, the Committee reviewed a number of issues relevant to the establishment of the human rights principles through the exchange of information with the Ministry of Justice, Islamic Affairs and Waqf, and attending trial sessions to determine the extent to which the fair trial guarantees are applied and are compatible with the international mechanisms for the protection and promotion of human rights.
