NIHR’s Committee on Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up Convenes its 2nd Meeting Virtually

The National institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Committee on Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up has convened its 2nd meeting virtually under the chairpersonship of Mr. Khaled Al-Sha’er, NIHR Vice-Chairperson and membership of Mrs. Rawdha Al-Aradi, Mrs. Hala Ramzi and Dr. Hooreya Hassan.

The Committee opened its meeting by reviewing the resolutions and recommendations issued by the Committee, and discussed some cases of inmates on hunger strike as well as the visit that was conducted to the Correction and Rehabilitation Centre to ensure their health, psychological and physical safety, where the concerned authorities were contacted to consider their needs.

The Committee then reviewed its statements related to the complaints received by the NIHR, the legal aids provided by it and the cases monitored by it via the media and social media since the last meeting, where it dealt with (1) complaint, provided (40) legal aids, monitored (7) cases via the media and social media and received (100) calls via the NIHR toll-free hotline during the said period, and discussed the actions taken thereupon.  The Committee also discussed its previous resolutions and recommendations and the actions taken thereupon.

Due to the current conditions and the precautionary measures taken by the Kingdom of Bahrain to combat the Coronavirus (Covid-19), in compliance with the directives and guidelines of the official authorities to limit the spread of the virus, based upon its keenness to the health and safety of everyone, the NIHR continues the provision of its services through the smartphone mobile application (NIHR Bahrain), its website (www.nihr.org.bh) or the toll-free hotline (80001144).
