NIHR’s Committee on Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up convenes its 1st Regular Meeting

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Committee on Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up convened its 1st regular meeting under the chairpersonship of Lawyer Mrs. Dina Al-Lazi and membership of Mr. Khalid Al-Shaer and Mrs. Rawda Al-Aradi.  Both Head and member of NIHR’s Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights Ms. Maria Khouri and Dr. Aisha Salem Mubarak also participated in the meeting.

During the meeting, the panel adopted the general terms of reference of the Committee on Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up and discussed the main obstacles recently encountered by it and how they have been addressed by it.

The panel also reviewed the overall complaints received by the NIHR as well as actions taken thereon, and arrived at several new proposals that are at the core of the Committee’s work, to be implemented by the Committee as an effective means for following-up its course of action without delay.  It also reviewed legal assistance provided by the NIHR as well as cases monitored by various media and social communication sites and the actions taken thereon.

It is worth mentioning that the Committee on Complaints, Monitoring and Follow-up is one of NIHR’s specific permanent committees, and is concerned with receiving human rights-related complaints from the citizens, residents and other bodies by various means, studying them carefully, determining the best means to handle them and following-up such complaints in an effective manner.  In addition, it is concerned with enlightening the concerned citizens and residents about the procedures to be taken in case of a complaint, providing them with assistance thereon, helping to settle such complaints with the concerned authorities, providing proposals related to initiatives targeting them and conducting field visits, labor gatherings and health and educational houses.  The Committee receives complaints and assistance applications that fall within its terms of reference at the NIHR’s headquarters in the Seef District or via NIHR’s website at www.nihr.org.bh
