NIHR's Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights Holds its 7th Regular Meeting

The National Institution for Human Rights' (NIHR) Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights held its 7th regular meeting under the chairpersonship of Mr. Farid Ghazi. The meeting was held  at the  NIHR's headquarters in the Seef District and was attended by Committee Members Dr. Abdulrrahman Jawaheri and Dr. Jameela Al-Sammak.

The Committee was notified of the recent developments regarding its proposal on amendment of some of the stipulations of Law No. (27) of 2005 on the extension of the age of compulsory education to include secondary stage.  The proposal was referred to the esteemed Council of Ministers to take appropriate action.

The Committee also resumed discussion of the paper presented by Dr. Jameela Mansour Al Sammak on “Women Rights in Reform and Rehabilitation Corporation Foundation and its Executive bylaws”, where members reviewed the most important rights and freedoms prescribed for women involving freedom restriction as well as the idea of punishment alternatives for some women-related crimes.  The Committee entrusted the Secretary-General to carry out a study on this topic for discussion to be resumed during next regular meetings of the Committee.
