NIHR’s Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights convenes its 7th Regular Meeting

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights convened its 7th regular meeting, under the chairpersonship of Dr. Aisha Salem Mubarak and membership of Dr. Hameed Ahmed Hussein, at the NIHR’s headquarters in Seef district.

The Committee discussed the request for views referred to it by the Council of Representatives on the Decree-Law No. 36 of 2017 to amend Article 3 of the Decree-Law No. 4 of 2001 on the Prohibition and combating of Money Laundering and the Finance of Terrorism.  The Committee also discussed the results of its meetings with the Supreme Council of Health on the draft law on health insurance and guarantee of the insurance rights of the elderly as well as its meeting with the Ministry of Labor and Social Development on the theme of the people with disabilities, in preparation for the follow-up of the implementation of the outputs of fruitful meetings in reality.

It is also worth mentioning that within the framework of the NIHR’s mandate to ensure the exercise of by persons with disabilities of all their rights and to identify the most important obstacles and challenges facing them in order to address them, the Committee addressed the organization of the dialogue session on disabled persons to be held by the NIHR in the future.  It also pointed out that it is in the process of studying the file of the initiative to spread the human rights culture of the third generation of human rights.
