NIHR’s Committee on Detention & Facilities Visitation Convenes its 13th Meeting

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Committee on Detention & Facilities Visitation has convened its 13th meeting at the NIHR’s Headquarters in the Seef district under the chairpersonship of Dr. Malallah Alhammadi, and membership of Mrs. Deena Alladhi and
Mr. Daniel Cohen.
The Committee opened its agenda by reviewing its previous resolutions and recommendations and the actions taken thereupon, especially those related to the review of legislative texts and laws on the mechanism of issuing certificates of good conduct and rehabilitation of those convicted in criminal cases. The Committee also discussed the controls and procedures for imprisoning those convicted of fines owed to the State.
The Committee also completed its discussions of the field visits to be conducted in the near future to some detention centres and health and social care institutions, to ensure that their guests enjoy the rights guaranteed to them, based upon the Committee’s keenness to activate the NIHR’s monitoring role in the field of the protection and promotion of human rights.
