17 Apr 2024

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Committee on Visiting Detention Places and Facilities has convened its 33rd regular meeting, under the chairpersonship of D. Malallah J. Al-Hammadi, and membership of Mrs. Hala Ramzi Fayez, and Dr. Hooria Hassan.

The committee reviewed the implementation of decisions and recommendations issued in previous meetings, and then discussed a proposal for cooperation with the Ministry of Social Development to participate in training programs for those covered by the royal pardon among those convicted in criminal cases, aiming to rehabilitate them for integration into society and participation in new activities that benefit them and their families.

In parallel with the NIHR's endeavor to strengthen its monitoring function, the committee continued its discussions concerning forthcoming field visits to detention centers within the Public Security Directorates, detention facilities, and childcare institutions. These visits are aimed at verifying compliance with the prescribed legal rights of detainees and prisoners, as stipulated in both national legislation and international agreements pertaining to the advancement and safeguarding of human rights.
