NIHR’s Committee on the Rights of Persons Deprived of Liberty convenes its 11th Regular Meeting

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Committee on the Rights of Persons Deprived of Liberty convened its 11th regular meeting at the NIHR’s headquarters in the Seef district under the chairpersonship of Dr. Hameed Ahmed Husain and membership of Mrs. Deena Abdulrahman Alladhi and Dr. Fawzeya Saeed Alsaleh.

The Committee opened the meeting by reviewing all its previous the procedures taken on its previous resolutions and recommendations.  In the same context, the committee reviewed its observations on its previous visits and presented the procedures and amendments carried out in those places based on its recommendations, thanking the concerned authorities for the speedy response and implementation of the proposed recommendations.

The Committee also discussed the ideas dealt with in the lecture held by the NIHR’s Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson to the members of the Council of Commissioners and some of Secretariat-General’s staff last month about NIHR’s standards on visiting reform and rehabilitation centres, pretrial detention places and health and social care institutions, in order to benefit from those standards and principles in the Committee’s upcoming visits.

The Committee concluded its meeting by adopting its proposed visit plans for next March, in light of performing the tasks entrusted to it and its mandate to conduct declared and undeclared visits in order to monitor human rights situation therein.
