NIHR’s Committee on the Rights of People with Restricted Freedom convenes its 3rd Regular Meeting

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Committee on the Rights of People with Restricted Freedom convened its 3rd regular meeting under the chairpersonship of Dr. Hameed Ahmed Hussein and membership of Mrs. Dina Abdulrahman Al-Ladhi and Mrs. Rawdha Salman AL-Aradi. The meeting was held at NIHR’s headquarters in the Seef district.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Committee discussed the report on the declared visit held by the members to the Psychiatric Hospital in accordance with the NIHR’s powers authorizing it to hold declared and undeclared field visits in order to monitor the human rights situation and to verify the quality of the health services provided to the patients at the hospital.

The Committee further examined the plans of its next visits, which shall include visits to a number of detention and preventive detention centers based upon its belief that all detainees should have access to the guarantees secured by national legislation and international law.

The Committee concluded its meeting with the discussion of its previous resolutions and recommendations and the procedures that have been taken.
