NIHR’s Committee on Detention & Facilities Visitation convenes its 19th Meeting via Videoconference

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Committee on Detention & Facilities Visitation has convened its 19th meeting via videoconferenc under the chairpersonship of Dr. Malallah Alhammadi and membership of Mr. Khaled Abdulaziz Alshaer, Dr. Fawzeya Alsaleh and Mrs. Deena Alladhi.

The Committee opened its meeting by following up all its previous resolutions and recommendations and the actions taken thereupon, especially those related to the Committee’s continuous and permanent contact with the concerned staff and officials of the General Administration for Correction and Rehabilitation Centres with a view to examining the quality of health, living and food services provided to the inmates of those centres and ensuring that all inmates and detainees are enjoying their basic rights guaranteed to them in accordance with the relevant national laws and international and regional instruments, especially the Standard Minimum Rules for the Treatment of Prisoners.

In a related context, the Committee discussed the course of its visits that took place to a number of major industrial companies in the country, with a view to ensuring that workers are enjoying various human rights at their places of residence and work, where the Committee affirmed the continuation of its programs regarding these visits.

Based upon the provision of Article (12/g) of the Law on the Establishment of the NIHR related to granting the NIHT the mandate to perform announced and unannounced field visits to monitor human rights situation, the Committee approved plans for its scheduled visits to correction and rehabilitation centres, private and public hospitals and shelter, health and social care houses for next November.
