NIHR Organises a Field Visit to Educational Institutions

21 Aug 2022

Mrs. Deena Al-Ladhi, member of the Council of Commissioners of the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), commended the royal patronage of Ashura by His Majesty the King, and His Majesty’s directives to harness all the necessary capabilities to meet the needs of commemorating this occasion, and to create the means to guarantee the right of citizens and residents to exercise their religious rites in comfort and peace.

She also praised the high directives of His Majesty the King to organise an introductory day for parents in all government schools, and to offer a voucher to each student to contribute to providing the school bag and its supplies to reduce the burdens on parents, in order to enhance the stability of Bahraini families.

This came during her chairing of the 15th meeting of the Committee on Visiting Detention Places and Facilities, in the presence of Mr. Daniel Cohen, Member of the NIHR Council of Commissioners, reviewing the course of the visit conducted by the members of the NIHR Council of Commissioners to the Correction and Rehabilitation Centre in Jaw region, the Pretrial Detention Centre and Juvenile Convicts Building in the Dry Dock region, during Ashura.

Based upon the oversight role of the NIHR, and coinciding with the start of the educational year 2022-2023, the Committee discussed a proposal to conduct a number of field visits to public and private educational institutions for the coming period, with a view to closely examining the procedures taken and services provided, and their compatibility with the basic principles of human rights standards, especially after the decision to make the actual attendance mandatory for all educational stages in public and private schools.
