21 Jun 2017

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) Committee on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights convened its 2nd regular meeting headed by Ms. Maria Khouri and membership of Dr. Hameed Ahmed Hussein and Dr. Aisha Salem Mubarak at the NIHR’s headquarters in Seef district.

The Committee reviewed the views of the NIHR General Secretariat on the proposal regarding the Unified Family Law that has been prepared in light of the draft law presented by the Shura Council, which ended with its approval, given the importance of this law in the life of the Bahraini family, as it is concerned with the human person, stressing the need for its release as it is commensurate with the situation of human rights, freedoms and the spirit of the age.

The Committee considered in its current action plans to activate its social and human rights role by conducting field visits to nursing homes and other humanitarian care centers for people with special needs, in order to get a closer look at the humanitarian and social care received by such groups to ensure the continuity of the necessary services.
