The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Committee on the Rights of Persons Deprived of Liberty convened its 6th regular meeting at the NIHR’s headquarters in Seef District under the chairpersonship of Dr. Hameed Ahmed Husain and membership of Ms. Deena Abdulrahman Alladhi and Dr. Fawzeya Saeed Alsaleh.

The Committee discussed its exceptional unannounced visit to a number of prisoners’ reform and rehabilitation centers affiliated to the Ministry of Interior during Ashura season in line with the NIHR’s keenness to ensure that all the prisoners in those centers are practicing their religious rites without discrimination in accordance with the principles laid down in the Constitution of the Kingdom of Bahrain and the relevant laws and legislations.  It also discussed the periodic visits scheduled for the month of September to the Batelco Care Center for Family Violence Cases and Northern Governorate Police Directorate Center in Hamad town in order to determine the extent of the availability of fair investigation guarantees during the pre-arrest investigation phase, as well as the commitment of those centers to providing the basic internationally-adopted principles on the protection of human rights.

The Committee also adopted a number of reports of the visits made by it during the previous months to a number of reform, rehabilitation, detention and care centers and took appropriate resolutions thereupon.  It also approved the proposed visit plans for the following month.
