NIHR’s Committee on Visiting Detention Places and Facilities Convenes its 4th Meeting Virtually

26 Sep 2021

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR)’s Committee on Visiting Detention Places and Facilities has convened its 4th meeting virtually under the chairpersonship of Dr. Malallah Al-Hammadi and membership of Mr. Daniel Cohen, at the NIHR headquarters in Seef district.

The Committee opened its meeting by discussing its recent visit to the National Bank of Bahrain (NBB) Rehabilitation Home for Disabled Children and followed up on the resumption of visits to correction and rehabilitation centres and health and social care homes, in order to closely monitor the actions taken by the management of those centres and homes and to determine the extent to which human rights standards are adhered to with inmates and residents.

The Committee also continued the discussion of the field visits that will be conducted during the coming period to correction, rehabilitation and pretrial detention centres to ensure that the inmates of those centres continue to exercise the rights guaranteed to them.  This is based on the Committee’s keenness to activate the NIHR supervisory role in the protection and promotion of human rights, especially at the correction and rehabilitation centres, health and social care homes, expatriate workers accommodation places or any other places suspected to be a site of human rights violations.
