05 Oct 2026

As part of the “Young Human Rights Advocate” Program, launched by the National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) last July and running through the end of October, NIHR, in cooperation with Government Hospitals, organized an awareness lecture titled “My Health Is in My Food,” attended by Dr. Maha Al-Shehab, Child Rights Commissioner, with the participation of children enrolled in the program.

Delivered by nutritionist Zainab Sayed Jaber, the lecture highlighted the importance of proper nutrition in supporting children’s health and development. It also addressed the fundamentals of a balanced diet and healthy eating habits, as well as the importance of adequate water intake and regular physical activity.

The “Young Human Rights Advocate” Program brings together 20 children aged 9 to 18, including members of the Friends of the Child Rights Commissioner team and children from the wider community. The program aims to raise children’s awareness of their rights and responsibilities, develop their skills in expressing their views and participating in decision-making, promote the values of citizenship and belonging, and familiarize them with the roles and mandates of national institutions and government entities.

The program includes a series of awareness-raising and interactive workshops and lectures, organized in cooperation with various government, community, and international entities, with the aim of developing children’s knowledge and skills and enhancing their participation.
