The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) received a group of students from Abdullah bin Khalid College for Islamic Studies during a field visit to the Institution’s headquarters in the Seef District, as part of its program aimed at promoting awareness of human rights culture among students of higher education institutions.
During the visit, a number of legal and human rights specialists from the General Secretariat delivered an awareness lecture that covered the establishment of the National Institution for Human Rights, its legal development, and its mandates in accordance with its establishing law. The lecture also highlighted the Institution’s role in promoting and disseminating the culture of human rights in the Kingdom of Bahrain. In addition, the presenters reviewed the NIHR’s functions in the field of human rights protection through receiving complaints, monitoring and follow-up, and conducting field visits, as well as preparing reports and issuing recommendations aimed at supporting national efforts in this regard.
The students also took an introductory tour of the NIHR’s Complaints & Call Center, where they were briefed on the center’s work mechanisms, procedures followed in receiving complaints and legal assistance requests, and how these are handled in accordance with national and international standards.
This visit comes within the NIHR’s commitment to strengthening communication and cooperation with higher education institutions, introducing students to its role and mandates, and promoting human rights concepts among them in a manner that contributes to preparing a generation that is aware of its rights and responsibilities.
