NIHR and Inspector-General’s Office organize a Workshop on the “Convention against Torture”

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR), in cooperation with the Inspector-General’s office of National Security Agency (NSA) organized a workshop on “the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment”, which was presented by Dr. Mohamed Hammad Al-Haiti, Head of Public Law Department at the Faculty of Law, Bahrain University, within the training program for staff of the NSA on human rights.

During the 2-day workshop, Dr. Al-Haiti dealt with a number of themes, including the international vision on torture, the position of the Bahraini legislature, the International Convention against Torture and the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights against Torture, in addition to the position of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights from torture.

The program of the staff of the NSA runs from February to September 2019.  It is an integrated program that includes a series of relevant workshops, training courses and awareness lectures on national human rights mechanisms, the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment and the Optional Protocol, as well as a review of the international treaty mechanisms of the Human Rights Council.
