NIHR organizes an Awareness Lecture for Alba Company Employees
The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) has organized an awareness lecture for employees from Aluminum Bahrain (Alba) about the “NIHR’s role in enhancing and protecting human rights in general and private sector employee rights in particular”, which was presented remotely by Ms. Maria Khoury, Chairperson of the NIHR, via videoconference, in activation of the NIHR’s role in promoting and disseminating a culture of human rights among all segments of society and developing awareness of national, regional and international standards of human rights.
At the beginning of the lecture, Mr. Ali Al Baqali, CEO of Alba, expressed his pleasure to cooperate with the NIHR in organizing this lecture to promote a culture of human rights among the Alba employees, stressing Alba's keenness to support the best human rights practices through its internal policies that attach great importance to the safety of employees and contractor laborers alike, in addition to focusing on the principles of equal opportunity, non-discrimination, and respect and appreciation for all.
For her part, Ms. Khoury expressed her pride in Al Baqali’s participation in the lecture and praised Alba’s activities as part of its efforts to promote and protect human rights for its employees and to provide job opportunities, stating that the business sector is responsible for respecting human rights as a source of solutions, praising at the same time the positive steps taken by Alba with regard to health and safety standards at every production stage, looking forward to strengthening mutual support between Alba and the NIHR in the area of promotion and protection.
The lecture dealt with the law establishing the NIHR and its efforts, activities and services provided to citizens and residents. It also introduced other national mechanisms related to the protection of human rights and reviewed its strategy, action plan and its most prominent achievements in the area of human rights at local, regional and international levels.
This event falls within the NIHR strategy, action plan and powers in the area of promoting and disseminating a culture of human rights by holding lectures and training and educational courses for all segments of society on subjects related to human rights.
