NIHR Presents an Introductory Lecture on the Role and Competences of National Institutions

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) has organised a lecture on the role of national human rights institutions in the promotion and protection of human rights, for the staff of NIHR Legal Affairs and Training Department and Call and Complaints Reception Centre, with the aim of introducing them to the most important competences and roles assigned to national human rights institutions.


The lecture was presented by Mr. Walid Al-Sheikh, a Lawyer and Director of the Central West Bank Office at the Independent Commission for Human Rights in Palestine, and Mrs. Samisha Riah, Programme Officer of the Arab Institute for Human Rights in the Kingdom of Morocco, where they discussed the role of national human rights institutions in strengthening the relationship between governments and civil society institutions and the legal framework regulating their work, as well as the most important challenges facing national institutions at all levels.  They also introduced an overview of the mechanism for activating the role of the NIHR in the field of reviewing the recommendations emanating from the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) Panel.
