NIHR holds a Workshop on “Fair Trial Guarantees”

The National Institution for Human Rights (NIHR) held a workshop in cooperation with the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office under the title “Fair Trial Guarantees’, presented by lawyer Joseph Alman, criminal law expert, over two consecutive days,  during which he addressed a number of important themes including the international system and its mechanisms for protecting human rights, fair trial guarantees in accordance with the international standards, regional and international agreements on fair trial guarantees and pre- and post-trial rights.

The workshop was attended by a number of law enforcement officials, representatives of civil society organizations, human rights defenders and a number of post-graduate students and those interested in human rights issues.

It is worth mentioning that Mr. Alman holds a Master’s degree with Honors of First Class in International Law, from University of Manchester.  He worked for Public Prosecution Service in England and Wales.  He also worked for NATO’s International Law Department in Brussels.  He is currently a Legal Adviser to the British Foreign and Commonwealth Office.

This workshop comes within the framework of the NIHR’s training plan, which includes the holding of forums, events and training programs related to the promotion and protection of human rights and within the NIHR’s mandate to promote the culture of human rights in society.
